Neutral govt, not Hasina to oversee polls

DHAKA: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has joined the dialogue with Election Commission (EC) over the next general election under a neutral government after dissolving parliament.

The dialogue, led by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda, began at 11:00 am.

Headed by BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, a delegation of fifteen members submitted a set of written proposals to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).

Party members recommended in the dialogue that a credible election is not possible under Sheikh Hasina.

In the written proposals, they proposed a neutral government during election-time, and dissolution of running parliament.

However, the party did not present their framework on a neutral government in the written proposal, but they will submit it later.

EC is arranging dialogues on numerous subjects: reformation of laws, voter list update, for the 11th National Parliamentary Election.

The EC will also hold talks with Awami League on October 18, however, the last dialogue is on October 24.
