KHAGRACHHARI: The dawn-to-dusk hartal was observed peacefully in Khagrachhari district on Monday (September 18).

Parbatya Bangali Chhatra Parishad and Khagrachari Hill District Sustainable Development and Corruption Prevention Committee jointly called the hartal protesting the killing of an activist of Parbatya Bangali Chhatra Parishad and demanding cancellation of primary school teacher recruitment test.

The long-route bus communication was suspended and shops were shut down during the hartal.
 
Leaders and activists of Parbatya Bangali Chhatra Parishad were seen demonstrating at Chengi Square area, Arambagh area and some other areas in the district town. They set off fire the wheels of vehicles in the areas.

The Hartal was observed peacefully in the upazilas of the hill district. Security measures were strengthened for the hartal.
 
Meanwhile, Khagrachari Hill District Sustainable Development and Corruption Prevention Committee is also scheduled to stage blockade program on September 19, 20, 21, demanding cancellation of the primary school teacher recruitment examination of Parbatya Zila Parishad.  
 
On September 12, the body of a motorcyclist—Rabiul--was found at Guimara Taikarma area of Khagrachhari.

Parbatya Bangali Chhatra Parishad claimed Rabiul is one of their activists.
