‘Gowher Rizvi meets Sinha to issue threat’

DHAKA: BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed has alleged that Prime Minister’s International Affairs Adviser Gowher Rizvi met Chief Justice SK Sinha to issue warning.

He made the allegation at a human chain program in front of the National Press Club in the city on Tuesday (August 29).

Oparajeya Bangladesh, a pro-BNP organization, formed the human chain protesting Awami League’s conspiracy, what the organization says, to ruin the judiciary.

LDP’s senior joint secretary general Shahadat Hossain Selim, BNP’s central committee members Abu Naser Mohammad Rahmatullah and Khaleda Yeasmin also spoke at the program, among others, with president of the organization Farida Moni Shahidullah in the chair.

Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina sent Gowher Rizvi to the Chief Justice for issuing warning. “We don’t know Gowher Rizvi properly. He came from Uttar Pradesh of India for lobbying for Awami League,” he said.

Dr Gowher Rizvi held the hour-long meeting with SK Sinha on August 22. The meeting was held a day after Sheikh Hasina came down heavily on the Chief Justice for comparing Bangladesh with Pakistan.

Ruhul Kabir Rizvi also criticized Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to hold meeting with the President where Chief Justice SK Sinha was also present. It was unexpected, he said.

He also said that the ruling party leaders are delivering derogatory comments against Chief Justice as well as the judiciary. The government is also using the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the National Board of Revenue (NBR) to weaken SK Sinha, he added.

Terming the Awami League as ‘disaster’ for the country, the BNP leader called upon all to resist the ruling party for establishing peace in the country.
