Question over 16th amendment verdict unconstitutional: Fakhrul BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir placing wreath at National Poet's tomb

DHAKA UNIVERSITY: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said it is unconstitutional to raise question over the Supreme Court verdict that scrapped the 16th amendment to the constitution.

He made the remark to reporters while paying tributes at the tomb of the National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam on occasion of 41st death anniversary in city’s Shahbag area on Sunday (Aug 27).

Questioning the appointment of Justice Shamsuddin Chowdhury, Fakhrul said, “I don’t know how and why he got appointed but what he had said on the SC verdict is absolutely illogical. The 16th amendment verdict was given by the consensus of the justices. Whoever raise question against it goes against the constitution.”

Recalling the National Poet, he said Kazi Nazrul Islam is the inspiration of our ideals, motivation to stand rigid on the ground. Throughout his lifetime, he had sought the freedom of human.
