PM provoking people against judiciary: BNP

DHAKA: The BNP has accused Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina of provoking the people against the Supreme Court as well as the judiciary.

The party’s secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at a press conference on Tuesday (August 22) said that the PM’s comments on the Chief Justice will create conflict between the judiciary and the executive.

BNP standing committee members Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan and Mirza Abbas and other senior leaders of the party also attended the press conference, which was convened in a short notice.

The press conference was organized at BNP chairperson’s Gulshan political office in the evening following the PM’s remarks on the Chief Justice’s response to criticism over the 16th constitutional amendment verdict.

Coming down heavily on Chief Justice SK Sinha for comparing Bangladesh with Pakistan, Sheikh Hasina at a discussion meeting on Monday (August 21) said that she is not scared at all with such a threat and this is not tolerable either.

The PM had said this can’t be accepted that a court of Pakistan removed their Prime Minister through a verdict and that will be used as a threat in Bangladesh.

Mirza Fakhrul said that the PM’s such comments will push the country towards the destruction. He called upon the prime minister to withdraw her statement.
