BNP slams AL for its move to change verdict

DHAKA: The BNP has sharply criticized the ruling Awami League for its move to change the Supreme Court’s verdict on the 16th constitutional amendment that created heated debate in the political arena.

BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed at a press conference at the party’s Nayapaltan central office in the city on Tuesday (August 15) said that the AL has become overenthusiastic to change the verdict.

He said that the ruling party’s general secretary Obaidul Quader began running like Olympics event to change the verdict. His meeting with the President and the Chief Justice over the issue is a part of evil-attempt, the BNP leader added.

Rizvi Ahmed said that the Awami League’s move to change the historic verdict by force is tantamount to direct interference into the independence of judiciary. The people won’t allow their ill-motivated move, he said.

He further said that meeting between the President and the Chief Justice is natural, but he questioned the AL general secretary’s meeting with them as well as his presence in the meeting between the President and the Chief Justice. It is nothing but naked interference of executive in the independence of judiciary, he commented.
