10 hurt in BNP-police clash, 7 held

NOAKHALI: At least 10 people were injured in a clash between the police and the leaders and activists of BNP at Senbagh upazila in Noakhali on Saturday (July 22).

The law enforcers, however, detained seven BNP men from the spot.

The clash took place at about 12:00 pm during a reception program which was accorded to BNP chairperson’s adviser and former chief whip Zainul Abdin Farroque.

Sub-inspector (SI) of Senbagh police station Saiful Islam is among the ten injured.

The detained persons are- Moahmmadpur union unit BNP president Jafar Ullah Khan, Bizbagh union Juba Dal secretary Mohammad Zahid, BNP leaders Md Suman, Saiful Islam, Yeakub Nabi Sohagh, Amirul Islam and Md Tuhin.

BNP leaders said that they arranged the function at Sebarhat area of the upazila on the occasion of Zainul Abdin Farroque’s release from the jail.

The BNP men were coming on the venue from different parts of the upazilas from morning. Police obstructed them at about 12:00 pm, triggering the clash. At the time, the BNP men hurled brickbats at police, while police charged batons on BNP men.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Senbagh police station Harun or Rashid Chowdhury told Banglanews that a case will be filed in this connection.
