KUSHTIA: At least 10 people were hurt including a former BNP lawmaker in an attack carried out allegedly by some activists of Jubo League, the youth front of the ruling party in Mirpur upazila.

The incident took place at the upazila BNP office on Wednesday (July 19).

Some of the injured are-- Former BNP lawmaker for Kushtia constituency-2 also a member of the party central committee Professor Shahidul Islam, Mirpur upazila unit BNP President Abdul Haque, Secretary General  Rahmat Ali Rabban, Municipality unit BNP President Abdur Rashid and NTV cameraperson Ashiquazzaman Sarpu.

Mirpur upazila unit BNP President Abdul Haque told Banglanews that some activists of Awami League led by upazila unit Awami League Office secretary Rasheduzzaman Chondo and Jubo League leader Taposh attacked them while they were distributing membership forms at the office at around 12pm.

The Awami League men also vandalized Shahidul’s private car and four motorcycles, said Abdul Haque.  

Besides, the attackers snatched away the camera from the TV personnel and hurled it.

Contacted, Mirpur Municipality Mayor also its Awami League President Enamul Haque could not be reached as his phone was found switched off. 
 
Mirpur Police Station Officer-In-Charge (OC) Rafiqul Islam acknowledged the incident to Banglanews and said that he is not sure about who have carried out the attack.
