Mosharraf, Moudud’s graft cases to continue

DHAKA: The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has cleared the way for continuation of graft cases filed against BNP senior leaders Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain and Barrister Moudud Ahmed on charges of illegal earnings and hiding income.

The three-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice SK Sinha rejected their review pleas on Monday (July 10).

After rejection of the review pleas, there is no legal bar to continue the case against the two standing committee members of the BNP, said lawyers.

The two leaders had filed petitions to the court to review appeal verdict, which ordered the continuation of their trials on charges of illegal earnings and hiding income.

Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan moved for the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in the court, while senior lawyer AJ Mohammad Ali moved for Dr Mosharraf and Barrister Moudud moved for Dr Mosharraf.

The ACC started the process of investigation about the wealth of Dr Mosharraf and Barrister Moudud during the state of emergency in 2007.

Dr Mosharraf is accused of laundering money during his time as health minister, between 2001 and 2006.

Barrister Moudud is accused of amassing wealth worth over Tk over nine crore through illegal means and concealing the information.
