FARIDPUR: Police foiled a demonstration rally of the BNP in Faridpur and arrested at least five leaders and workers of the party on Thursday (May 25).

The BNP men began the rally at Adalat Para in the district town at about 10:00 am as part of their countrywide demonstration program.

Faridpur district BNP general secretary Advocate Syed Modasser Ali presided over the rally, while several leaders of the party spoke it before the program was foiled.

At one stage, police dispersed the BNP men and arrested five people from the rally.

Sub-inspector (SI) of Faridpur Kotwali police station Md. Monir Hossain told Banglanews that they foiled the rally, as the BNP men arranged it without permission.

The central BNP on Wednesday (May 24) announced of staging demonstration across the country on Thursday (May 25) after it failed to get permission for holding a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka.

The party wanted to hold rally at Suhrawardy Udyan protesting Saturday’s police raid on the party chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office.
