Comilla mayor Sakku gets permanent bail

DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Wednesday (May 24) granted permanent bail for Comilla City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Monirul Haque Sakku, in a case filed over gaining illegal wealth beyond known income and hiding property information.

Responding Sakku’s plea, the court of Dhaka Senior special judge Kamrul Hossain Molla passed the order. 

Earlier, on May 9, Sakku was given interim bail at the same court.

However, the case was transferred to Dhaka special judge-5 for trial and June 12 was set for hearing upon forming charges. 

On January 7, 2008, Anti corruption commission (ACC) Assistant director Shahin Ara Mamata as a plaintiff filed the case with Ramna police station, Dhaka.

Sakku was accused of achieving properties worth almost Taka 4.5 lakh and hiding information of more than Tk 12 crores.
