Women snatch Jamaat leader from police

SIRAJGANJ: A group of local women snatched away an arrested leader of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami from police in Ullapara upazila of Sirajganj on Wednesday (April 26).

Ullapara Police station officer-in-charge (OC) Dewan Kowshik Ahmed told Banglanews that police conducted a drive in Bakhua village in the upazila to arrest Jamaat leader Ataur, an accused in several cases filed for obstructing police work and carrying out sabotage activities.

Later, Ataur was arrested from his home in the drive led by sub-inspector (SI) Kawsar Hossain.

“Suddenly, a group of some 50-60 women of the village attacked police. Handcuffed Ataur fled from the scene promptly,” he added.

The villagers of Bakhua village were given an ultimatum to hand over Ataur by Wednesday night, added the OC.

A case will also be filed in this regard, he added.
