SIRAJGANJ: A district court on Tuesday (April 25) has rejected the bail petition of BNP central committee vice-chairman and former state minister for power Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku in 4 cases filed for attacking and torching a train in Sirajganj.

Sirajganj District and Sessions Judge Sheikh Merina Sultana denied the bail appeal around 11:00 am.

Supreme Court (SC) Bar Association president Jaynul Abedin moved for Iqbal Hasan Tuku while additional public prosecutor (PP) Shamsur Rahman moved for the state in court.

PP Shamsur Rahman said, earlier on April 10, Tuku surrendered in court. The judge sent him to jail after denying his bail petition then.

On October 11 in 2010, six BNP men crushed under the wheels of a speedy train in Soydabad area in sadar upazila of Sirajganj while BNP chief Khaleda Zia was attending a rally there as chief guest. In rage, the BNP men from that rally conducted vandalism and arson attack in the train.
