DHAKA: Jatiya Party Chief HM Ershad and three others have been acquitted of charges in a radar purchase corruption case filed 24 years ago.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court’s Judge Kamrul Hossain Mollah pronounced the verdict on Wednesday (April) in presence of the accused in court.

Three others accused are -- former air force associate chiefs Momtaj Uddin Ahmed, Sultan Mahmud and director of United Traders AKM Musa. Of them, AKM Musa died earlier.

In the verdict, the judge said the prosecution failed to prove the charges brought against them.

In April 1992, the then Bureau of Anti-Corruption filed the case accusing four people including Ershad for allegedly causing losses of Tk 64.04 crore to the state exchequer by purchasing radars from the USA while he was in power.
