COMILLA: Two people were killed and at least 15 others injured in a clash between two rival groups of Awami League in Muradnagar upazila in Comilla Tuesday (April 18).

The deceased were identified as—Faruq Mia, 28, and M Saidur Rahman, 26.

The incident took place at Rahimpur area in the upazila sadar at Tuesday midnight. 

Local sources informed that followers of Ali Ashraf, a union parishad member, and Alauddin Anis engaged in a clash over past dispute and establishing supremacy in the area. At one stage, Faruq and Saidur, two Awami League activists, got critically injured upon hit with sharp weapons. 

They were rushed to Muradnagar upazila health complex where physicians declared them dead.    

However, additional police members have been deployed in the area as death of the two people invites agitation.  

Muradnagar police station officer-in-charge (OC) SM Bodiuzzaman confirmed the matter.
