DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi jointly inaugurated the construction project of India-Bangladesh friendship pipeline.

They opened the construction work of the oil pipeline through a videoconference from their respective capitals on Tuesday afternoon (Sept 18).

Moreover, construction of two other projects- 3rd and 4th dual gauge railway in Dhaka-Tongi section and dual gauge double line (first revised) in Tongi-Joybebpur section- was also inaugurated at the time.

According to sources concerned, the construction of 130km long oil pipeline, to bring diesel from India’s Shiliguri to Bangladesh’s Parbatipur, will take two years to complete. Currently diesel is being supplied through rail wagon. Once the pipeline is opened, the cost of supplied oil will decrease significantly.

On the other hand, public transportation in country will be faster and at ease once the construction of work of other two railway projects is completed.
