DHAKA: The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved the proposal to purchase Electronic Voting Machine (EVM).

The approval came from ECNEC meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday (Sep 18).

The project evaluation committee of the planning ministry assessed a proposal from the Election Commission (EC) to purchase 1.5 lakh EVMs at a cost of Tk 3,825.34 crore. Every unit EVM will cost around Tk 2 lakh. 

After the meeting, Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said the committee has approved the proposal to buy EVMs in a bid to hold transparent, error-free and modern technology based voting.
