5 killed in ‘shootouts’ in 3 districts

DHAKA: Two drug peddlers, two robbers and an extremist were killed in separate shootouts with the law enforcers in Dhaka, Cox’s Bazar and Pabna at early hours of Tuesday (September 18).

Banglanews correspondents reported the incidents.

In Dhaka, robbers engaged in a shootout with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Rayerbazar Martyred Intellectuals’ Graveyard, around 2:45am.

Identities of the deceased couldn’t be known immediately.

Arms, bullets and other tools used in robbery were recovered from the spot.

In Cox’s Bazar, two drug dealers—Abdus Samad and Md Abu Hanif were killed in a shootout with the RAB members at Moricha Bazar Checkpost area in Ukhia, at early hours of the morning.

1,30,000 yaba, a truck, 2 local arms, a foreign pistol, a one-shooter gun, 8 rounds of bullet and 8 rounds of cartridges were recovered from the spot.

RAB-7 Cox’s Bazar Camp Commander Maj Mehedi Hasan confirmed the matter.

The bodies and the arms were handed over to Ukhia Police Station.

In Pabna, a leader of outlawed extremist group was killed, in a shootout with policemen, took place at Koijuri village under Atgharia upazila, around 1:30am.

The deceased was identified as Kurban Ali, 30. 

The deceased, a leader of ‘Nakshal Group’, was accused in several cases filed with Atgharia and Ataikula police stations, on murder and robbery charges.

A revolver, four rounds of bullet, two cartridges, 20 piece yaba and a motorcycle were recovered from the spot. 

Four policemen sustained injuries in the shootout, Ataikula Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Masud Rana told Banglanews.
