HABIGANJ: Two people including a student of Jahangirnagar University (JU) drowned while bathing in separate ponds in Baniachong upazila of Habiganj on Sunday noon (August 19).

The deceased were identified as Shahed Khan Hasib, 20, first year student of Department of Animal Sciences of JU and son of one Abidur Rahman of Sagardighi par area and Hadis Mia, 60, son of one (late) Nawabullah of Jamalpur village.

Locals said Shahed Khan drowned after he went to take a bath in local pond named Kamala Rani. Later locals recovered his body from under water and taken to Baniachong upazila health complex where on-duty physician declared him dead. 

On the other hand, Hadis Mia, who was an epileptic, drowned while bathing in a pond in Jamalpur village. Later his floating body was recovered from the pond.
