HABIGANJ: Police on Sunday (August 19) submitted the charge-sheet in sensational Beauty Akhter murder case in Habiganj bringing charges against three people.

Habiganj Superintendent of Police (SP) Bidhan Tripura confirmed the matter of charge-sheet submission at a press briefing this noon.

Earlier on Saturday (August 18), Probe officer of the case and officer-in-charge (OC) of Habiganj DB Police Md Shah Alam submitted the charge-sheet before Habiganj Chief Judicial court.

Police pressed charged against victim’s father Sayed Mia, his accomplice Moyna and hired assailant Kamal. However, assailant Kamal is still absconding.

At the press briefing, SP Bidhan Tripura said, “After conducting long elaborate investigation of the case, police have confirmation that three people (above mentioned) have killed Beauty Akhter. So charges have been pressed against them.”

However, another rape accused Babul was not involved in the killing of Beauty and thus not mentioned in the murder case charge-sheet. The probe officer filed another charge-sheet of Beauty rape case before a Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal accusing Babul and his mother Kalam Chan Bibi. Prior to the murder of Beauty, Babul kept her in his home and raped her for 17-18 days while his mother Kalam Chan allegedly assisted the act.

On the other hand, hired assailant Kamal has not been arrested five months into the murder incident. However, police are conducting raids to arrest the man, said SP Bidhan Tripura.

Earlier on March 17, police recovered the body of Beauty Akhter from a haor in Shaistaganj area of Habiganj. On that day, victim’s father Sayed filed a case with Shaistaganj police station accusing Babul, his mother Kalam Chan Bibi and several other unidentified persons.

The murder incident sparked widespread criticism after photos of Beauty’s dead body shared through social media platforms. Civil society observed various protest programs demanding immediate trial of the perpetrators.
