JHENAIDAH: A district court has awarded death sentence to three men for killing a college student Imran Hossain in Jhenaidah.

Judge Golam Azam of Jhenaidah Additional District and Sessions Judge’s court-1 passed the order on Sunday noon (August 19) with Tk 20,000 fine for each convict.

The death row convicts are- Imran Hossain, son of one Mohammad Ali of Kamarkundu village in Jhenaidah sadar upazila, Nasim Biswas, son of one Abdul Momin and Monirul Islam Munshi, son of one Abdul Motaleb Munshi of Shikarpur village. 

Of the convicts, Monirul is absconding. The court also acquitted another accused Zakir Hossain in the case. 

According to case statements, college student Imran, son of one Nazrul Islam of Laudia village, went missing on October 21 in 2011. On the next day, his slit-throat body was recovered from a pond in Shikarpur village. Later, victim’s father filed a murder case with Jhenaidah sadar police station accusing unknown assailants.
