‘Forest robber’ killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’ An injured forest official

COX’S BAZAR:  A suspected member of a forest robber gang was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with forest officials at Meherghona Bonbite area of North Division of Cox’s Bazar forest on Friday (August 17).

5 forest officials were also injured in the gunfight as it took place at 10 am.

The deceased was identified Mustak Ahmed, 37, son of Mohammad, hailed from  the abovementioned area. 

A group of forest officials of Meherghona Bonbite went to the restricted area as they had been reported of a gang of forest robbers cutting trees there.  The robbers started firing bullets, stabbing forest officials; forest officials retaliated in self defense, Mahbub Morshed, a forest official of North division of Cox’s Bazar forest said.

One of the injured of forest officials was taken to Cox’s Bazar District Sadar Hospital. Later, he was shifted to Chittagng Medical College Hospital (CMCH), he added.

The drive is underway to catch the accused involved with the incident, Farid Uddin Khndaker, officer-in-charge of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Police Station said.
