DHAKA: A 20-kilometre-long tailback has been formed on Dhaka-Chittagong highway stretching from Meghna-Gumti Bridge toll plaza in Daudkandi upazila to Illiotgonj on Thursday (August 16).
Usually, it takes at best two hours to arrive in Dhaka from Cumilla which is now taking 6-7 hours. The long traffic congestion on the highway is causing immense suffering to commuters across the south-eastern districts.
“Unfit vehicles were kept off roads in fear of probable cases to be filed in the last traffic week observed countrywide. Apart from that, cattle-laden trucks occupy the road mostly. However, police are making efforts to mitigate the situation,” Nurul Islam, Officer-in-Charge, Daudkandi Model Police Station told Banglanews.
