SAVAR (DHAKA): A 10-year-old schoolboy was reportedly murdered in inhuman style by breaking his neck and smashing his face with brick, in Savar, on the outskirts of the capital city.

Savar model thana police recovered the battered body of Rohan Islam Abid from Bhagalpur Balughat area of Savar’s Bangshi river Thursday (August 16) morning.

Rohan Islam Abid, son of one Afzal Hossain from Talbagh colony of Savar, and a first-grader at Kids’ University School of Excellency in the locality.

Police detained the deceased’s two friends who are reportedly sons of the next door tenants, over the suspected murder. 

“Several boys called my son away from my residence, in name of going to a Mourning Day program Wednesday (August 15). Afterwards, he didn’t return home the whole day,” Afzal Hossain told Banglanews.

“After searching in several areas, police recovered Rohan’s body packed in a sack in Balughat area Thursday morning. And Rohan’s sand-tainted pant was found on the rooftop of neighboring Shawkat’s two-storey residence,” he added. 

Moved by the brutal incident, the locals demanded justice through fair investigation as early as possible. 

Rohan’s body was sent to the morgue for an autopsy. Two detainees are being interrogated and preparations are underway to file a murder case, said Savar Model Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Enamul Huq.  

“Rohan’s face was smashed with brick to distort his physiognomy, after killing him by breaking his neck,” added the SI upon initial presumption.
