COX’S BAZAR: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) unearthed an arms factory in a remote hilly area of Maheshkhali in Cox’s Bazar.

The law enforcers carried out a drive Saturday night (July 21) and detained two persons from the factory.

20 guns, huge bullets and equipments of arms were seized.

The detainees were identified as Abdul Hakim, 38, and Mohammad Shahidullah, 31.

RAB-7 Cox’s Bazar Camp Company Commander Maj Mehedi Hasan said they conducted the drive on secret information that some mechanics, in coordination with local terrorists, used to assemble arms in the factory.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, they opened fire at RAB members, during the drive.

RAB fired back, in retaliation, forcing the mechanics to flee the scene.

The detainees were interrogated as the drive concluded around 6:30am Sunday (July 22).

The arms and bullets will be handed over to Maheshkhali Police Station, said Maj Mehedi Hasan.
