4 ‘drug traders’ killed in ‘gunfights’ in 4 dists Photo symbolic

DHAKA: Four suspected drug dealers were killed in reported gunfights with police and members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Kushtia, Chapainawabganj, Dinajpur, and Cox's Bazar districts early Saturday. 

In Kushtia, Shamsuddin Syam, 38, son of late Tobarok Miah of Khemirdiyar in Bheramara upazila, was killed in a reported gunfight with police around 3 am at Bakapool in the upazila.

Shamsuddin was wanted in eight drug-related cases, said Aminul Islam, officer-in-charge of Bheramara Police Station.

In Chapainawabganj, a suspected unidentified drug trader was killed in an alleged shootout with Rab at Mollan Maath in Sundarpur of Sadar upazila around 2 am.

Syed Abdullah Al Murad, camp commander of Rab-5 said four Rab members were also injured in the indecent.

Besides, In Dinajpur, Abdur Rahim, 45, son of late Golam Nabi of Puraton Bazar Railgate area of Parbotipur upazila, was killed in a reported gunfight with police around 3 am at Bannirghat area of the upazila.

Parbotipur Model thana OC (officer-in-charge) Habibul Huq Prodhan told Banglanews that Rahim was wanted in murder and drug-related cases.

In Cox’s Bazar, an alleged drug dealer was killed in a gunfight between two gangs of drug dealers in Chakaria Upazila of the district.

The deceased was, identified as Ismail, 30, son of Abdus Salam, a resident of Chakaria municipality's ward no-8 Pochpara area.

He had 8 anti-narcotics cases filed against him with Chakaria Police Station. The body was taken to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue.

On information, police recovered the body from Kumaria Bridge area, as the clash took place over dominance, said Yasin Arafat, officer-in- chief of Chakaria Police Station.
