DHAKA: Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said some 22,000 drug peddlers and smugglers have been detained in nationwide anti-narcotics drive.
His comments came at a briefing arranged, on Monday (June 25), in his Secretariat office ahead of the ‘International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’ on June 26.
Minister Kamal said, “In the ongoing anti-narcotics drive, some 22,000 drug peddlers were sent to jail in different terms after detaining them by law enforcement agencies, and mobile courts in regular drives.”
He said, “Law enforcement agencies do not bring anyone to justice until they are 100% sure about their involvement. Action will be taken against drug dealers and traffickers, who are listed by 3 intelligent agencies of the government.
In addition, the minister said, “We’ll take action against those who are on our list too. Be it public representative or whoever they may be.”
