DHAKA: In a bid to prevent road accidents, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Monday (June 25) directed the authorities concerned to ensure that none can drive more than five hours on long distance route.

She also asked to take measures so that divers can get rest during long distance drive as well as proper trainings.

Following the recent road accidents in Gaibandha and other parts of the country and massive casualties, the premier gave the directive in a regular cabinet meeting at Secretariat in Dhaka, Cabinet Secretary Shafiul Alam told newsmen after the meeting.

Sheikh Hasina urges people to be careful while crossing roads. Drivers and passengers have to use belts for their safety, she added.

She also asked Home minister, Road Transport and Bridges minister and Shipping minister to supervise the matter, Shafiul Alam added.

In Gaibandha, an accident claimed the lives of 18, leaving at least 38 injured on the Rangpur-Dhaka Highway in the Palashbari upazilla on Saturday (June 23).
