DHAKA:  UN Secretary General António Guterres is coming to Dhaka on June 30, to visit the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar.

World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim is also scheduled to arrive here on the same day, on a two-day visit to inspect the Rohingya situation.

Sources from the foreign ministry told Banglanews that António Guterres and Jim Yong Kim will leave Dhaka for Cox’s Bazar Rohingya camps. 

The duo will sit in discussion with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali.

Besides, Jim Yong Kim will hold a bilateral meeting with Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith. 

UN Secretary General António Guterres earlier visit Rohingyas in Cox’s Bazar in 2008 while he was serving as the chief of UNHCR.

He earlier called on the world communities to stand against the persecution of Rohingyas, after terming the oppression ‘humanitarian crisis overload’ carried out by the Myanmar army on the Rohingyas.

Besides, UN Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on Sunday (June 24) on a three-day visit.

He will also visit Nepal, India, and Pakistan till July 3.

Lacroix’s visit is to convey the gratitude to the four countries for their service and sacrifice for establishing peace in the UN peace and security reform areas.

However, Lacroix is expected to meet with the senior officials of government, military and police from the four countries.
