SATKHIRA: A nine-year-old child was trampled to death in Tala upazila on Thursday (June 21).

The victim was identified as Riad Hossen, 9, son of Hasan Gazi, from Riad Gangarampur village under the upazila.

The accident happened, around 8: am, at Gangarampur village, Mehedi Russell, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tala Police Station told Banglanews.

The elephant was tied to a pillar of bridge. Riad was among onlookers, beholding the elephant. At that time, the animal wrapped its trunk around the child, and trampled him to death. Police, on report, seized the elephant, but its care taker fled the spot, OC said.
