GAZIPUR: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda said the commission will take stern actions against those who will be accused of foiling a free and fair Gazipur City Corporation (GCC) polls.

The CEC made the remarks to reporters after a coordination committee meeting on GCC polls at Gazipur Deputy Commissioner’s office on Wednesday noon (June 20).

Mentioning that the current law and order situation in Gazipur is satisfactory, Nurul Huda said some 80 days have been passed after the GCC polls schedule was announced. There have been no unpleasant incidents so far that can disrupt or question the election. So the situation is good and the administration will keep it that way till the Election Day.

CEC also said army won’t be deployed in the polls. 

Election Commission Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed, Divisional Commissioner KM Ali Azam, Returning Officer Rakib Uddin Mandal, DIG of Dhaka range Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, Deputy Commissioner of Gazipur Dewan Muhammad Humayun Kabir and Police Super Mohammad Harun-ur-Rashid among others were present at the press briefing.
