No extortion in name of extra fare this year: DMP

DHAKA: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md. Asaduzzaman Mia claimed that passengers are not facing extortion in name of extra bus fare anywhere in Dhaka ahead of Eid.

He made the remarks to reporters after inspecting Saidabad bus terminal area in Dhaka on Wednesday noon (June 13).

DMP commissioner said there is a list of ticket fare in every counter and police personnel along with bus owners’ association members are overseeing ticket sale. Moreover, mobile court is also present so that extra fare is not obtained from passengers. 

“I have personally spoke with some passengers and they ensured the no amount of extra fare is being claimed from counters. However, if such incidents happen then police were directed to show ‘zero tolerance’ and bring the perpetrators to justice,” the commissioner said.

Asaduzzaman Mia also urged Eid home-goers to ensure some sort of security before leaving city for their village home.

“Every shopping malls and financial institutions will be under CCTV surveillance and police protection. Moreover, Law enforcing teams will patrol different areas of Dhaka installing check-post at selected points to ensure maximum security,” he added. 

Mentioning that law enforcers have already destroyed hundreds of drug dens in the capital, the DMP commissioner finally said the ongoing anti-drug drives will continue with full force and drug peddlers, whoever they may be, will not be spared.
