MOULVIBAZAR: The Manu and Dhalai rivers of Moulvibazar district are flowing above danger level triggering erosion in 5 vulnerable points.

Thousands of people have been marooned as some 20 villages were inundated due to the erosion.

According to information given by Bangladesh Water Development Board, water of Manu and Dhalai rivers are flowing 175 cm and 52 cm respectively above danger level.

The overflow was triggered by heavy rainfall in the upstream India. Several points of the Dhalai and Manu rivers’ embankment are in vulnerable position.

Aside from households, roads and paddy fields were flooded causing sufferings and woos to hundreds of families ahead of Eid-ul Azha.

Meanwhile, officials of Bangladesh Water Development Board said the situation might get worse as more upstream water is pouring in. People in Moulvibazar region are terribly preparing for a flood.

Bangladesh Water Development Board executive engineer Narendra Shankar Chakrabarty told Banglanews the risk of flood remains high as downpour is still continuing in bordering India.
