Anti-narcotics crackdown: 10 more killed in 8 dists

DHAKA: Ten drug peddlers of eight districts were killed in countrywide ‘gunfights’ with law enforcers, as anti-narcotics drives continue.

Of them, 2 in Cumilla, 2 in Dinajpur, 1 in Kurigram, 1 in Joypurhat, 1 Chandpur, 1 in Mymensingh, 1 in Pabna, and 1 in Thakurgaon, were killed from 12 am to now on Saturday (May 26).

In Cumilla, two suspected drug dealers were killed, around 2 am, in a reported gunfight with police in Bagra area of Brahmanpara upazila.

The deceased, Babul, 40, hailed from Ashabri area and Almas, 35, hailed from Tetebhumi area, were from the same upazila. 

At that time, 40 kg hemp, one round bullet, and a foreign pistol were seized from the spot.

In Joypurhat, s suspected drug trader, named Rintu, was killed, around 12 am, in an alleged gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Bhimpur village under Panchbibi Upazila of the district on Saturday (May 26).

Phensendyls, a gun, one round bullet were seized from the spot.

In Mymensingh, a suspected drug trader, Shahjahan, 30, was killed, around 1:30am, in a reported gunfight with detective branch of police at Telwari point of Athabari union under Ishwarganj upazila, according to Officer-in-Charge Ashiqur Rahman Mymensingh DB police. 

Shahjahan was accused in eight drug cases, he also said.

In Dinajpur, two suspected drug traders were killed, around 3 pm, in two gunfights with RAB and between drug dealers in Birganj upazila and Dinajpur Sadar Upazila.

The deceased are identified as Sabdarul Islam, 42, and Abdus Salam, 47, son of Abdus Samad of Mohorarpur area of Sadar upazil.

In Chandpur, a suspected drug trader was killed in a gunfight with police, around 3 am, at Bonra village under Ashrafpur union of Kachua upazila.

The drug peddler, Bablu, 35, son late Sultan Ahmed of that village, was accused in five drug cases, Chandpur district DB police.

In Pabna, a listed drug trader was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Mahedrapur bus terminal area of Pabna Sadar upazila.

The deceased was, identified as Abdur Rahman Sheikh, 45, son of late Aser Uddin Sheikh, from Kabirpur village of Malonchi union under Pabna Sadar Upazila.

200 pieces of yaba pills, a few guns, bullets, and 500 grams of hemp were seized from them.

In Thakurgaon, a drug dealer, named Mobarak Hossen Kuttri, 44, son of Shafir Uddin, of Chit Chilarong village of Sadar upazila, was killed during a gunfight with police.

15 cases were registered against Mobarak in Sadar Police Station, said Farhad Ahmed, SI of that police station.

In Kurigram, an alleged drug dealer, Ibrahim Ali, 34, son of late Insaf Ali, hailed from South Bashjani village of Bhurungamari upazila, was killed in a reported shootout with police.

A lot of grugs, and a huge amount of explosives were seized from him
