Anti-narcotics crackdown: 11 more killed in ‘shootouts’ in 9 dists

DHAKA: Eleven more suspected drug dealers killed in reported shootouts with the law enforcers and among themselves amid the anti-narcotics crackdown countrywide.

The shootouts happened in Dhaka, Satkhira, Cox’s Bazar, Netrokona, Mymensingh, Cumilla, Gaibandha, Jhenaidah and Sherpur in different times from late hours of Thursday (May 24) to early Friday (May 25). 

Banglanews correspondents from the respective districts reported the incidents.

In Satkhira, suspected drug dealer Yunus Ali Dalal was killed in a reported gunfight with policemen, in Ramkrishnapur-Borali village under Kolaroa upazila.

A one-shooter gun, bullets and Phensedyl syrup were recovered from the spot, said Kolaroa Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Bilab Kumar Nath.

In Cox’s Bazar, suspected drug dealer Mostak Ahmed was killed in a reported shootout among two groups of them in Pahartoli area under Maheshkhali upazila.

In another incident, Akter Kamal, a brother-in-law of Cox’s Bazar (Ukhia-Teknaf) lawmakerAbdur Rahman Bodi, known as an alleged yaba pill smuggler, was killed in a reported shootout among two groups of suspected drug dealers in Ramu upazila.

On information from the locals, police recovered the body from the spot.

The body was sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, for an autopsy, said Maheshkhali Police Station Pradip Kumar Das.

Two LG guns, cartridges and yaba pills were recovered from the spot, he added.

In Netrokona, two suspected drug dealers were killed in a reported shootout with policemen in Monang area under Modonpur union of Netrokona sadar.

The deceased couldn’t be identified immediately.

Netrokona Model Police Station OC Md Borhan Uddinn Khan said that two pipe-guns, yaba pills and heroin were recovered from the spot.

In Dhaka, suspected drug peddler Kamrul Islam was killed in a reported shootout with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in BG Press High School Ground.

Tejgaon Industrial Zone Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Mizanur Rahman said that arms, bullets and yaba pills were recovered from the spot.

In Mymensingh, a suspected drug dealer was killed in a reported shootout with policemen in Purohitpara railway colony area in the town.

Detective Branch (DB) OC Ashiqur Rahman said that a Chinese axe and yaba pills were recovered from the spot.

In Cumilla, suspected drug dealer Kamal alias Fency Kamal was killed in a reported shootout with police in Mahishmara village under Burichang upazila.

Burichang Police Station OC Monoj Kumar Dey said that a pipe-gun and hemp were recovered from the spot.

In Jhenaidah, suspected drug dealer Shamim Hossain, 46, was killed in a reported shootout with police members in Kaliganj Wapda area.

Kaliganj OC Mizanur Rahman Khan said that a foreign pistol, bullets, yaba pills and Phensedyl syrup were recovered from the spot.

In Gaibandha, suspected drug dealer Jewel Mia was killed in a reported shootout with Pulbondi Folia Bridge area under Fulchari upazila.

Gaibandha Superintendent of Police (SP) Engineer Abdul Mannan Mia confirmed the matter.

In Sherpur, suspected drug dealer also a terrorist Abul Kalam Azad alias ‘Kalu Dakat’ was killed in a reported shootout with police members.

Sherpur Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP, Sadar circle) Md Aminul Islam said that the body was kept at the morgue of Sherpur sadar hospital for an autopsy.
