Road crashes kill 13 in 5 districts

DHAKA: A total of 13 people including women and children were killed and dozens injured in separate road accidents in five districts of the country on Wednesday (May 23).

In Bogra, five people were killed and seven others injured as a truck hit a Leguna (human hauler) on Bogra-Natore highway in Shajahanpur upazila in the morning.

The deceased are identified as- Ariful Islam Sumon, 32, Mokhlesur Rahman, 52, Ramzan Ali, 60, Anowar Hossain, 50 and Faruk Hossain, 30. 

In Rangpur, two people were killed and 10 others injured as a Rangpur-bound passenger bus drove off road and crashed into a tree in Jagannatpur area.

In Naogaon, Two people were killed as a tractor rammed the motorcycle killing both of its rider dead on the spot. The deceased were identified as- Shoeb and Anik.

In Thakurgaon, a motorcyclist, Razu Mia, 35, was killed as a tractor hit the motorbike near Balaka Udyan.

In Gopalganj, a woman, her daughter and granddaughter were killed as a truck rammed an auto-rickshaw in Majhigati bus stand area of Kashiani upazila in Gopalganj.

The deceased were identified as Selina Begum, 48, wife of one Hafizur Rahman of Joynagar village of the upazila, her daughter Ekamoni and Ekamoni’s daughter Maisha, 3. Selina Begum was the head teacher of Joynagar government primary school.
