HC summons 2 probe officers in militancy cases

DHAKA: The High Court summoned two investigation officers of two cases filed over the incidents of separate explosions at two alleged militant hideouts in Dhaka and the seizure of extremist materials including books.

An HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim passed the order on Wednesday (May 23), during the hearing of a rule seeking bail for two accused in the above-mentioned cases.

The investigation officers have been asked to appear before the court on May 30, along with necessary documents of the cases.

Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Malik moved for the state, at the courtroom Wednesday.

Of the cases, one was filed by the RAB, under Anti-Terrorism Act, over an explosion at a five-storey building named Kamol Prova in Darussalam area of Mirpur that left seven persons killed on September 5 last year.

Another case was filed with Banani Police Station on July 30 in the same year, over the seizure of extremist books and desktop computer used in militancy activities, from a building named Telco City at Banani Road no-4.

The court has summoned the two investigation officers over the delay in filing charge-sheets in the two cases, said the attorney general.
