BAGERHAT: A district court on Monday (May 21) awarded death penalty to a woman and her lover for killing the husband in Bagerhat. 

Judge Md Zakaria Hossain of Bagerhat Additional District and Sessions judge’s court-2 also fined the convicts Tk 20,000 each.

Moreover, the court also sentenced seven year jail to two other convicts and fined Tk 10,000 on charge of making disappearance of the body.

Another accused was acquitted by the court as prosecution failed to produce enough evidence for conviction.

The death row convicts are- Fatema Begum, 46, wife of the victim Al-Amin of Dakshin Kumariajola village of Morelganj upazila and her lover Shahjahan Sheikh, 60, haling from the same village. 

State prosecutor advocate Sita Rani Debnath told Banglanews that Fatema and her lover strangled Al-Amin to death and buried the body beside kitchen room on March 16 in 2015. Later victim’s son Mohammad Ali Sheikh filed a general diary (GD). 

Following the GD, police launched an investigation and detained victim’s wife Fatema. Three months after the murder, police recovered some parts of the body based on Fatema’s confession.
