BANDARBAN: Five workers were killed in a landslide while cutting soil in a hill in Ghumdhum area under Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban Monday (May 21).

Another one was injured in the incident.

Naikhongchhari sadar union parishad chairman Taslim Iqbal Chowdhury told Banglanews that the landslide took place at Monjoypara area of Ghumdhum, around 12:30pm

Four of the deceased were identified as Abu Ahmed, 30, Md Jashim, 25, Nurul Hakim, 25, and Sona Meher, 35.

Six labors were working for a drainage system, since the morning, said Taslim Iqbal.

Soil fell on them all of a sudden, amid drizzling at noon.

Of them, one Nur Hossain was rescued and sent to a local hospital for treatment.

The rest are being suspected of buried under 15-20 feet, added Taslim Iqbal.

On information, police and BGB members went to the spot and launched operation, Naikhongchhari UNO Sarwar Kamal told Banglanews.
