PATUAKHALI: A large-sized dead whale washed up on Kuakata beach in Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali on Saturday morning (May 19).

Locals suspect that the 45 foot long marine mammal might have died some 15 days ago.

Confirming the matter to Banglanews, Latachapali chairman Md Ansaruddin Molla said the dead whale washes ashore in Gangamoti area located in the eastern side of Kuakata beach zero point. Locals have urged the administration to preserve the skeleton of the whale.

Kuakata municipality authorities said decision will be made after consulting with local administration. Meanwhile, according to researchers, it may be a Bryde's whale or Baleen Whale.

Kalapara upazila senior fisheries official Kamrul Islam said, on information, officials were sent to the spot. However, the fisheries department has nothing to do here. However, the Department of Forests or Dept of Wildlife Preservation or the Kuakata Beach Management Committee may take action on this matter.
