Tangail teacher, wife murdered over property: Police Retired school teacher Anil Kumar Das and his wife Kalpana Rani Das

TANGAIL: Police claimed to have uncovered the murder mystery of a retired school teacher Anil Kumar Das and his wife Kalpana Rani Das in Tangail.

Victim Anil’s step brother Swapan Kumar Das, along with his associates, choked the duo to death using pillows, says police. 

Two arrestees in the case, Jahidul Islam, 32, son of Abdus Salam of Rasulpur village and Md Farhad, 33, son of one Hafizuddin from nearby Shalina village, gave confessional statements to the crime before court.

Tangail Superintendent of Police (SP) Ranjit Kumar Roy made the disclosure at a press conference in his own office on Friday noon (May 12).

SP Ranjit Kumar Roy said victim Anil’s step brother Swapan prepared documents and stamps for transferring the ownership of a piece of land from Anil. Swapan also convinced five of his friends for forcing Anil to sign the papers. But Swapan and his associates end up strangling Anil and his wife to death as Anil refused to sign the transfer papers. Later the bodies were dumped inside the septic tank 

Police arrested Khokon Bhuiyan and Manjurul Islam Manju on May 14 in connection with the incident. Jahidul Islam and Md Farhad were detained on May 12. Drives are underway to capture the main accused and others.

Earlier on Jul 27 in 2017, bodies of Anil Kumar Das, retired teacher of Rasulpur Basirunnessa high School, and his wife Kalpana Rani Das was found murdered in their house at Rasulpur village of Tangail. Later victims’ son Nirmal Kumar Das filed a murder case with Tangail sadar police station.
