FENI: Poet Belal Chowdhury was buried at his family graveyard in Shoshordi area of Feni sadar upazila Wednesday night (April 25).

His last namaz-e-janaza was held at the Shoshordi Senior Darul Ulum Madrasha ground around 8:30pm.

Feni sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Mamun, Shoshordi union parishad Chairman Md Jane Alam, locals, and several hundred fans of the poet attended the prayers.

Feni Deputy Commissioner (DC) Monoj Kumar Roy paid last respect to the poet.

Earlier, people from all walks of life including cultural activists to politicians paid tribute to the poet by placing floral wreaths on his coffin at a public mourning ceremony at the Central Shaheed Minar jointly organized by Shammilita Sanskritik Jote and Jatiya Kabita Parishad, in the morning.

Belal died while undergoing treatment at Anwar Khan Modern Medical College Hospital in Dhanmondi Tuesday (April 24).

He was 79.

Born on 12 November 1938, he was awarded Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1984 and Ekushey Padak in 2014 for his contribution in Bangla literature.
