DHAKA: Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police detained a fraudster on charge of forging ATM cards of some five banks. 

Identity of the detainee couldn’t be known immediately.

CID’s Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sharmin told Banglanews that a team of organized crime unit of CID nabbed the accused Tuesday night (April 24).

Huge equipments used for producing ATM cards, 1,500 clone cards and a machine were seized from his possession. 

Details will be informed at a press briefing later in the day, said ASP Sharmin.

Earlier, an unscrupulous syndicate withdrew Tk 20 lakh, using forged ATM cards made upon the information of some 49 subscribers who used their cards at a super shop in Banani.

The subscribers have accounts in Brac Bank, City Bank, Eastern Bank, United Commercial Bank (UCB) and Bank Asia.    

Earlier, in February 2016, Eastern, City and UCB banks cancelled nearly 1,200 cards after huge card forgery was reported. Users’ data was leaked through using specialized camera in the ATM booths.
