DHAKA: Celebrated poet Belal Chowdhury died while undergoing treatment at Anwar Khan Modern Medical College Hospital in Dhanmondi Tuesday (April 24).
He was 79.
He breathed his last at 12:15pm, his elder son Abdullah Pratik Chowdhury told Banglanews.
Born on 12 November 1938, Belal Chowdhury was awarded Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1984 and Ekushey Padak in 2014 for his contribution in Bangla literature.
The poet served Bharat Bichitra as its editor published from Indian embassy in Dhaka. He was also an editor of the Shaptahik Sandwip.
Mourning and condolences poured on Facebook from the poetry-lovers, connoisseurs and cultural quarters of the country, at the death of Belal.
