KHAGRACHHARI: A district court on Monday (April 23) sentenced life term imprisonment to 15 members of banned militant outfit Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in a case filed under the Explosive Substances Act in Khagrachhari.

Judge Ratneswar Bhatchariya of Special Tribunal and District and Sessions Judge’s court also sentenced 10 years imprisonment to seven among the 15 convicts in a separate section of the same case. 

However, the court also acquitted one accused as the prosecution failed to produce enough evidence against him.

On August 17 in 2005, a series of bomb attack was carried out by the convicts in different places of Khagrachhari that left three people injured.

Later Khagrachhari sadar police station sub-inspector (SI) Syeed Khokon, as plaintiff, filed a case over the incident.
