SATKHIRA: A young man, who was accused in a case filed over raping a third-grader in Kolaroa upazila of Satkhira, has been killed in a shootout with policemen in the early hours of Sunday (April 22).

The shootout took place at Hijoldi village under the upazila. A one-shooter gun and one round of bullet were recovered from the spot.   

Sohag Hossain, the deceased, was a resident of Boalia village under the upazila.

Kolaroa Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Biplob Kumar told Banglanews that Sohag raped a class-III girl Saturday afternoon. A case was recorded with the police station immediately after the incident. 

Sohag opened fire at the police members while they were conducting drive to arrest him, around 2:00 in the night. Two policemen sustained injuries in the fire.

The law enforcers also fired in retaliation, leaving Sohag dead on the spot, added the OC.

However, Sohag reportedly violated the girl while she went for bathing in the pond next to the house Saturday afternoon.

The girl is now undergoing treatment at Satkhira Sadar Hospital. Her grandmother, as the plaintiff, filed the rape case with Kolaroa Police Station.
