DHAKA: The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) considered logical the ongoing movement waged by the students and job-seekers seeking quota system reformation.
 
BNP Vice Chairman senior lawyer Joynul Abedin expressed their opinion regarding the unrest at a press briefing at the SCBA auditorium in Dhaka Tuesday (April 10).

Secretary Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon also attended the briefing.

However, no pro-government lawyers were seen attending the briefing.   

“The government wants to divert the movement, to sway the main objective of it. (The government) wants to indulge in lingering in name of discussion,” said a written speech delivered at the briefing.

“We think that the rightful demand of the students should be met. (We) are demanding release of the arrested students and proper treatment of the injured students,” it said further.   

It further demanded launching of an investigation headed by a justice into the incident of oppression, arrest, and attack on the demonstrators at the university campuses during the protests.
Besides, the law enforcers involved in the above-mentioned acts should be punished, it demanded further. 

Joynul Abedin further said that they will offer legal assistance without any cost if any false case is filed over the demonstrations. 

Moreover, a group of lawyers under the banner of general lawyers expressed solidarity with the demonstrations for quota reformation movement countrywide.

Lawyer Akhrtarul Islam, Hasnat Quaiyum, Ainun Nahar Siddiqa, Anir R Haque, Jyotirmoy Barua, Anwar Hossain Reza, Humayun Kabir, Reazul Islam and Hasan Tariq Chowdhury Sohel were among others, of the faction, attended a rally before the Bar Council Bhaban.
