PM to visit Thakurgaon March 29

THAKUGAON: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will visit Thakurgaon district on Thursday (March 29).

Residents of this northern district are being ready to give a warm welcome to Sheikh Hasina as it will be her first visit after 16 and half years. The premier will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones of some 68 development projects there.

A helicopter carrying the prime minister will arrive at Thakurgaon on Thursday noon.

The prime minister will address a public rally to be organized by local Awami League at Govt Boys' School ground at 3:00pm from where she will inaugurate 35 projects and lay the foundation stones of 33 others.

District Awami League general secretary and Zila Parishad chairman Md. Sadeq Quraishi said the people of Thakurgaon have been waiting long for this day. Some 5 lakh people will hopefully attend the rally. 

Also a 58-point demand has been forwarded to the Prime Minister including establishing a public university, a medical college and an export processing zone, opening the closed airport and introducing intercity train service in the district, he added. 

Superintendent of Police (SP) Farhat Ahmed said tight security measures have been taken ahead of Prime Minister’s arrival. The district police have already strengthened the three-level security system and setup check-post at the entry points of Thakurgaon city.
