NOAKHALI: President Abdul Hamid termed ‘Swarna Dwip’ of Noakhali a hub of possibility and said the island should be made eligible to add huge contribution to national economy.
He was talking to the reporters while visiting ‘Swarna Dwip’ Saturday (March 24).
The president expressed his hope that the island can be turned into a ‘Singapore of Bangladesh’ in future, if necessary steps are initiated.
‘Swarna Dwip’, an island in the Bay of Bengal roughly translated as the ‘island of gold’, is a training ground for the Bangladesh Army and also offers a glimpse of scenic beauty.
The 370-square-kilometre land is thriving with multiple development projects i.e. dairy farming, fishing, vegetation and forestation.
However, a helicopter carrying the president landed there at noon.
He inspected the forestation, coconut orchards and military farms.
Chief of Army Staff Gen Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq, State Minister for Health Affairs Jahid Malik and Noakhali Deputy Commissioner Md Mahbub Alam Talukder were among accompanied the president.
