2 killed over land dispute in Sylhet

SYLHET: Two young men were killed as the residents of two villages engaged in a clash following a rivalry over land ownership in Gowainghat upazila of Sylhet Saturday (March 24).

The deceased were identified as Ali Ahmed, 25, and Rumel Ahmed, 30, residents of Mitrimohol village.

Besides, some 25-30 persons were injured in the clash. They were sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospiatl for treatment.

Local sources said that some villagers from Salutikor Bohor area led by a former chairman’s son Jamal Ahmed carried out an attack in Mitrimohol village, following a dispute over constructing a wall. 
 
In retaliation, residents of Mitrimohol village confronted violently.

At one stage, the clash left Ali and Rumel killed.

Gowainghat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Delwar Hossain told Banglanews that two persons were killed in the clash. Several persons were detained and a firearm used by Jamal Ahmed was recovered from the spot.

Additional police members were deployed in the area, to bring the situation under control, said Sylhet Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Anisur Rahman Khan.

However, police is continuing the drive to nab the attackers and recover arms, added the ASP.
